BRANDING

Rare Lands

Customer: Music band
Problem description, challenge, limitations, goal: The goal was to create the visual identity for a fictitious band (alternative rock and post punk), including logo, album cover and mockups. Unfortunately, during the design phase, there were difficulties about finding the right logo and artwork for the band's vinyl.
Role: work performed in pairs with one of my classmates, where I played the role of graphic design. In this work, I was mainly responsible for the vinyl cover and envelope, special card and posters. We started with visual research in which we took a look at the logos and artwork of various competitors. Afterwards, we developed some proposals and found complications in this part of the design. However, through careful research and advice from the teacher, we overcame these difficulties and managed to find the right inspiration for the work. We came up with a logo and artwork that would echo the concept of rare earths and represent the desperation of exploited people, two topics covered by the music group. The title of the album, “Mistakes Again,” refers to the continuous mistakes humanity makes against its fellow human beings and nature. Next, we made the vinyl envelope (with the names of the songs) and labels for the band's vinyl. After finishing this step, we made some mock-ups where we applied our work on billboards, music platforms and gadgets. The end result was a rather challenging, but at the same time fascinating work, which involved printing the band's cover in A2 and the envelope containing the credits and all the names of the songs in A3 format. We also designed a booklet, in which we explained the process from start to finish. All three works were then cut out and glued by hand. We finished this project with great satisfaction, although there were some hiccups in the delivery and design of the work.
